Before your family photo session

- Where do the photo sessions take place?

Location shoot locations vary depending on the time of year, I can suggest some beautiful locations  for the session, i'm also happy to shoot somewhere that's special to you and your family.  I work throughout Hertfordshire and I'm happy to travel on request.

For newborn sessions or in-home sessions I will come to you.

- How do I book a photoshoot with you?

Just send me an email, give me a call or fill in the contact form.  We can talk in more detail about what you would like and then get a date booked in.

- Do you work weekends?

Yes! Although they get booked up further in advance, so if you have a particular date or time that is best for your family please try and give me notice.

- Do I need to decide the package before the shoot?

No! I want you to see your beautiful images before deciding on where to put them and how many to have.

- What if it rains?

I will check the weather a couple of days before your shoot and if it's looking like lots of rain then i'll be in touch to discuss.  Cloudy days provide very flattering light so don't worry if it's not the sunniest day of the week.  I've done shoots in sun, cloud, wind and snow before and got some beautiful photos!

- I have a 2 month old already can I book your watch-me-grow package?

Yes, I'd love you to!  The watch-me-grow package is 3 shoots over 18months, its great to see a difference between the shoots, for example - new baby-sitting-walking.  The first shoot can take place up to 6months old.

At your family session

- Photoshoots fill me with dread but I also want beautiful photos of my family.  Are we going to have to stand and smile awkwardly?

Definitely not, I want children to feel like it's been a fun day out.  I aim to capture you as a family together, connected and having fun in a beautiful setting.  No awkward poses and no awkward smiles.

- What if my children don't play ball on the day?

Don't panic!  There is plenty of time for me to make friends with them.  I have photographed lots of very shy children as well as lots of children with a lot of energy.  Shoots are fun and tailored around your family, they can be full of energy with lots of games and running about but also full of cuddles and love.  Although most shoots last 60-90 minutes I don't have a set time limit so if there are tantrums or snacks are needed then we'll stop and rest and carry on again once they're happy again!

- What do I need to bring on a location shoot?

I recommend bringing snacks and drinks for little ones to keep them going!  A change of clothes is also recommended incase of any accidents.

- Can grandparents be involved in the shoot?

Of course, I would love to capture all your generations together.

- How about pets?

I love animals and welcome all on shoots! (I had a tortoise on a shoot once!).  I just ask you let me know beforehand so i can be prepared before the day and check the best location for them to come along to.

- I have a newborn that cries a lot, will you get any decent photos?

It's ok, i've been there! Newborns shoots can last 60mins or they can take 180mins, there is no time pressure form me for them to 'perform'.  I will work around you and your baby, if they need feeding, changing, settling etc then that is all fine and I allow plenty of time to do so.

- What if my little one is sick on the day of the shoot, can we reschedule?

Absolutely, I understand that children get sick.  I am happy to rearrange for another date, please try and give me as much notice as possible.

After your session

- What happens after the shoot?

After the shoot I will work through and edit your images.  Around 2 weeks later I will upload the best to a secure online gallery for you to view from your home.  You can decide on your favourites and what you would like to do with them.  The gallery is open for 5 days for you to decide.

- Why is the gallery only open for 5 days?

I only take on a set amount of shoots each month, I know by allowing the gallery open for 5 days I will have enough time to spend with you if you need any help designing products or albums, or if you need any help with deciding on anything.  I have time to get your orders edited and over to you or sent off to the lab quickly the week after.  There is a £25 fee for extending this time for a further 3 days.

- Do I get the photos in colour and black and white?

There will be a mixture of both, all images will come in colour and the images that work in black and white will be edited in both.

- How and when do I pay?

I take the session fee upfront to confirm your date for the shoot.  Products or collections can be decided after you have seen the images and are paid for on ordering after the shoot.

- How long until we receive the photos?

Orders take around 2-4 weeks after payment has been made.

Emma has done a number of shoots for us now over the years including both of our newborn shoots for our boys and a family shoot for my Mum's 60th amongst others. Our family love the quality of her work and love spending time with her on the shoots. She makes our children feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera and she catches the 'melt your heart' moments. I honestly can't recommend her enough xx
